Swedish firm Magnusson has launched an office in Latvia’s capital Riga after hiring a team from Baltic firm Varul.
The move follows the firm’s expansion in Sweden in January and the launch in Estonia in March. Magnusson is also boosting its presence in Minsk with the addition of two lawyers who have been cooperating with the Riga team on the Belarusian market.
The office will be led by a founding partner of Varul, Gints Vilgerts, who led the firm’s Latvian operations from Riga. He has brought with him the firm’s entire Riga team, comprising of four partners and eight lawyers. It is understood that Varul’s Riga office has subsequently closed.
Senior partner Per Magnusson has said the firm had ambitions to become a “pan-regional powerhouse” across the Nordic and Baltic region.
The Riga office will advise on corporate, M&A, competition, banking and finance, dispute resolution, tax and regulatory matters.
