Michael Leong has joined Corrs Chambers Westgarth’s Brisbane office as a partner in the firm’s Planning, Environmental and Local Government practice (PELG).
Michael is a planning and development specialist who has been recognized as a leading planning and environment lawyer in Queensland in the 2010 edition of the Doyle’s Guide to the Australian Legal Profession. He is also a frequent speaker at conferences.
Corrs partner and CEO John W.H. Denton said that Michael’s appointment complements the capabilities and credentials already in the Planning, Environmental and Local Government group.
“Adding Michael to our partnership will assist in maintaining the status of the Brisbane PELG group as the market leading practice in Brisbane and enhancing the Group’s offering to the development industry and Government sector,” he said.
Michael is one of Australia’s leading practitioners in his field and was reported in the Australian Financial Review in 2010-2012 as being rated by his peers as one of Australia’s “Best Lawyers” in planning and environment.
Prior to Corrs Michael has been a partner at Norton Rose since 2006 where he was the workgroup leader of the Planning and Environment Group.
Michael is the immediate past President of the Queensland Environmental Law Association Inc and is currently on the Urban Futures board which provides strategic policy direction to Brisbane City Council. In addition to his legal qualifications, Michael also holds a Bachelor of Regional and Town Planning.
