Osborne Clarke has turned to digital TV provider YouView for a hire in its digital business group, bringing aboard legal chief John Davidson-Kelly.
John Davidson-Kelly, who has been head of legal at YouView since 2010, joined Osborne Clarke firm as a partner in its London office as of 1 November, with his move following the launch of the TV service this summer.
While at YouView, Davidson-Kelly, a corporate lawyer, worked with a team from Field Fisher Waterhouse (FFW) during the roll-out of the service after FFW was appointed by a consortium of stakeholders including BBC, BT and ITV to advise on the launch.
He has maintained links to FFW figures including corporate head Andrew Blankfield, one of the lead partners on the matter. FFW and Osborne Clarke are currently in merger talks.
The former senior associate at Olswang specialises in on-demand content and connected TV distribution channels, as well as regulatory aspects of media distribution and exploitation.
Osborne Clarke digital business sector head Mike Turner said in a statement: “Digital media is one of the fastest growing areas of the digital world and one in which we already have a good reputation thanks to our market-leading interactive entertainment practice. John’s arrival takes our practice to a new level, however, bringing strong, current experience of online media content issues and channel development.”
YouView declined to confirm whether it would be hiring a new legal head.
