Baker & McKenzie London managing partner Gary Senior is set to step down from the role next year after 10 years as the US firm kicks off a process of choosing his successor.
Senior figures in the Lodon office have started taking soundings from partners about a replacement for Senior (pictured).
The voting process is expected to be completed around May, the same point in the year in which the last election in 2010 came to an end. The changeover will take place in September, with roughly three or four partners understood to be in contention.
Senior started his first three-year term in September 2003 and added a one-year extension until 2007 while he considered whether to continue. Each term since then has lasted for three years, with the corporate partner telling partners when he was last elected that he would not pursue a fourth term.
A firm spokesperson said Senior would continue as a partner but said it was too early to confirm what capacity this would be in and whether a more senior role was likely.
The spokesperson said in a statement: “I can confirm that Gary’s term ends in September 2013. When Gary renewed his term in 2010 he confirmed then that this would be his last term. We have a standard procedure to identify a successor and will communicate the outcome in due course.”
