Deutsche Bank UK veteran brought in for new UBS regional role
UBS has hired its first Asia-Pacific general counsel, appointing former Deutsche Bank UK deputy general counsel Kevin Wilkey to the new role.
The Deutsche Bank veteran joined UBS in Hong Kong earlier this week (14 February), having resigned from Deutsche's London arm at the end of last year in the wake of a number of changes to the in-house legal team. At the time of his departure he was deputy GC for the UK and Western Europe, as well as head of the London global markets legal team.
At UBS, Wilkey will report jointly to the bank's global divisional GC for wealth management and Swiss banking Oliver Bartholet and joint GCs for investment banking David Graham and Chul Chung, taking responsibility for the relevant teams in the Asia-Pacific region.
UBS group general counsel Markus Diethelm said in an internal announcement: "I am confident that Kevin's appointment will further deepen our talent and capabilities overall and increase our interaction with all the businesses in this critical and highly-diverse region."
The role will also see Wilkey co-ordinating with regional teams in UBS Global Asset Management and Global Compliance. Wilkey has previous experience of the Hong Kong market, having been based there while serving as regional counsel for the Bankers Trust.
Wilkey's departure from Deutsche came after Emma Slatter was appointed to replace Simon Dodds as general counsel for the UK and Western Europe in May 2010. Slatter was previously head of legal for fixed income before being selected to take over from Dodds when he took up a new role as Deutsche's global head of compliance.
