Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati opens an office in Beijing.
Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, who already have offices in Hong Kong and Shanghai, have opened an office in Beijing. Li Kefei, who previously worked for Skadden, will head the technology-focused firm’s new office. He has represented private equity firms and his practice concentrates on corporate and capital markets transactions.
“Besides being the regulatory centre in China, Beijing is a hub for technology companies and growth enterprises as well as capital markets, private equity, venture capital, and cross-border M&A activities,” said the firm’s co-managing partner Jack Sheridan in a statement. “That confluence makes it a natural fit for the firm and critical to serving the diverse needs of our clients in the region.”
In addition to corporate lawyers, the Beijing-based team will also include a number of IP and licensing lawyers to assist clients in the technology and life sciences sectors, the firm stated.
Wilson Sonsini opened its first Asia office in Shanghai in 2008 and launched a second one in Hong Kong in 2010. Earlier this year, its China practice took a hit when US rival Covington & Burling hired a team of five from its Shanghai and Silicon Valley offices, including Shanghai-based partners Eva Wang and Michelle Edwards.
