Debevoise partners Lord Goldsmith QC and Sophie Lamb appeared as advocates before the UK Supreme Court this week in a landmark arbitration appeal. The two day appeal before Lords Neuberger (presiding), Mance, Clarke, Sumption and Toulson was open to the general public and attracted significant media attention, being streamed live online over the Sky News Supreme Court Live internet channel.
The outcome of the current hearing is keenly anticipated as it is the first time the UK Supreme Court has been asked to consider in this particular context the interplay between the 1996 Arbitration Act and the court’s inherent jurisdiction to grant injunctive relief.
