Harold Kestenbaum is a partner in the Franchise, Hospitality, and Business Transactions practice groups in the Long Island and New York offices of Gordon & Rees. Mr. Kestenbaum has specialized in franchise law and matters relating to franchising for more than 35 years. He has served as franchise counsel to many regional, national and international franchise companies in a variety of industries.
Mr. Kestenbaum is engaged in the practice of franchise distribution and licensing law, representing exclusively franchisors, both first-time start-up and multi-unit established systems. He provides comprehensive advice from development, operation and expansion to termination, non-renewals and contract disputes. Mr. Kestenbaum authored So You Want to Franchise Your Business, the first book dedicated to franchise entrepreneurs. The book is a step-by-step guide to what a businessperson needs to know and do to properly roll out a franchise program.
Harold’s expertise in franchise law is enhanced by his unique practical experience serving as the Chief Executive Officer of a national franchisor and a Director of many nationally and internationally known franchisors, including Sbarro, Inc. In addition, he served as President and Chairman of the Board of FranchiseIt Corporation, the first publicly-traded company, which he co-founded, specializing in providing franchise marketing and consulting services and equity financing to emerging franchise companies. Mr. Kestenbaum’s multi-dimensional experience positions him with the unique industry insider’s perspective that enables him to provide franchisor clients with legal services that will facilitate a client’s business strategy.
