Thierry specializes in corporate finance with a particularfocus on stock exchange and financial markets, in particular public takeovers,initial public offerings, listings on Euronext and rights issues.
He also has an extensive knowledge of finance litigation with aspecific experience in the area of judicial and disciplinary proceedings beforeFrench courts and market regulators in connection with alleged breaches ofstock exchange regulations and white collar crimes. He advises investmentbanks, insurance companies and public companies on mergers and acquisitionstransactions, capital markets work (equity) and has been involved inprivatisations.
Background:
Thierry Gontard is a member of the firm's InternationalExecutive Committee. He became country head for France in 2005. He is alsonational practice group head for the firm's corporate and commercialdepartment.
Thierry is a French qualified lawyer, admitted to the Paris Barin 1988. He joined Simmons & Simmons in 2001 as a partner of the Parisoffice having previously worked as a lawyer for Gide Loyrette Nouel. Then, for3 years he was in charge of legal issues pertaining to financial transactionsat the French Commission des Opérations en Bourse (COB), now Autorité desMarchés Financiers (AMF).

- advising the company Paris Hôtel RoissyVaugirard (PHRV) owned by Allianz Covea and Cofitem-Cofimur for the preparationand mounting a takeover bid for the shares of Foncière Paris France
- assisting a member of EADS Executive Committeein the context of enquiries conducted by the judicial and stock marketauthority regarding potential insider trading upon the sale of hisstock-options
- advising Elliott Management Corporation inconnection with the sale to Eiffarie of 13.19% of the share capital held byElliott Management Corporation in Autoroutes Paris Rhin Rhône (APRR), a majorFrench motorway company, for a total value of €820 million
- advising the chairman of a financial company, asubsidiary of a large international bank, charged with manipulating the shareprice in the context of the Vivendi buy-back program
- advising Unicredit and several hedge funds inconnection with their stake in Technicolor’s debt (formerly known as Thomson)as holders of super subordinated notes
