Beng Chai TAY is the Managing Partner of Tay & Partners, a leading firm in Malaysia. He is concurrently the Head of the firm’s Corporate and Commercial Practice.
Focus Areas
* Beng Chai’s practises in the various sectors of M&A serving local and foreign corporations, private equity and venture capital, government agencies and institutions, and target companies. He has also undertaken numerous cross border investments for clients in Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, China and India.
* His also focuses on capital markets. He was the lead partner in the IPOs of Eversendai Corporation Berhad and iDimension Corporation Berhad on Bursa Malaysia last year and routinely works with investment banks on corporate finance mandates.
* He is closely attuned to foreign investors’ concerns on doing business in Malaysia and helps navigate regulatory and equity issues for foreign investors in Malaysia for MNCs and international law firms.
* He also oversees commercial transactions including real estate investments, procurement and distribution contracts, joint ventures, asset financing of aircrafts and properties, corporate reorganisation and restructuring.
Appointments and Other Designations
Beng Chai is a General Committee member of the Malaysia International Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the leading international chamber of commerce in Malaysia where he has been active for many years. He is a Vice Chair of the Legal Practice Committee of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association and served for 2 terms as an Asia Pacific representative of Lawyers Associated Worldwide. He sits on the board of various public and private companies, is a member of the standing committee of Trade in Legal Services of the Bar Council, Malaysia involved in the road map and issues of liberalisation for foreign lawyers, and is also a founding partner of ATMD Bird & Bird LLP, Singapore. He speaks frequently on competition law and company law issues.
