Mr. Sultan Al-Abdulla is the founder of Sultan Al Abdulla & Partners (SAP). As part of his practice, he provides legal services to a wide range of corporate and institutional clients.

Prior to establishing his practice in 1999, Mr. Al-Abdulla worked for Qatar Petroleum (QP) for 22 years. During the last three years of his career with QP, he served as Managing Counsel and in this capacity represented the government of the State of Qatar and QP and its subsidiaries in major transactions as lead negotiator.

Mr. Al Abdulla in his private practice, has counseled, and negotiated on behalf of, local and multinational clients, major business transactions and projects. As a litigator, he represents clients before all tiers of courts in Qatar up to the Court of Cassation. He is a member of the International Bar Association and the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators and Inter Pacific Bar Association

Matters

1. Acting as expert counsel in ad hoc arbitration involving issues of liability between a Qatari sponsor and a company registered outside of Qatar in respect of various sponsorship services.

2. Advising and representing a major construction company in relation to its obligations in respect of security and Performance Bond obligations.

3. Advising a major contractor involved in the construction of a mega residential project in the State of Qatar, in respect of its disputes and provided legal guidelines on the laws

4. Sultan Al Abdulla & Partners has been the counsel of record for the establishment of free zones in Qatar and in the drafting of free zone regulations. The Firm also advises and assists clients seeking to register in the Qatar Financial Centre.

Overseas Matters

 Successfully represented Governmental entity against a European company in an international commercial arbitration under the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Arbitration Rules. The place of arbitration was Manama, Bahrain.

 Advised a major international petroleum company on its proposed reporting and notification obligations under an EU Directive.

 Assisted and advised a major international Canadian construction company on the risk of liability in respect of construction works undertaken in the State of Qatar

Mr. Sultan Al-Abdulla has an LLB degree from Beirut Arab University in Lebanon and an LLM degree in International and Comparative Law from Southern Methodist University, USA.
