Joel began his professional career in the Business and Legal Affairs department of JiC Infoconsulting, S.L., a company in the new technologies and computer services sector, drafting Services and Sales Agreements to commercialize the products offered by the company, and providing general legal advice for the daily business issues of the company.
Three years later, Joel continued his professional career moving into the law firm legal practice as transactional law attorney at Angles & Buxeda Advocats, S.L.P., a law firm boutique that focus on Business Law, with remarkable expertise in local Commercial Contracts Law, Corporate Law and Bankruptcy Law.
While at Angles & Buxeda Advocats, S.L.P., Joel was conceded a leave period to obtain a Juris Doctorate, and a License to practice in the States of Florida and New Jersey from the Florida Bar and New Jersey Bar, respectively. Nevertheless, Joel remained working for the firm as of counsel, intervening in the negotiations and contract drafting for several major international an national transactions, involving , among others: a Joint Venture between one of the main financial institutions of Spain and one of the world leading whole sale furniture stores company, for the creation of a new financial product; an agreement between one of the world leading companies in the automobile industry and one of its exclusive automobile parts provider; and, an agreement between a world leading company in the fashion industry and one of the leading fashion reseller in Barcelona, for a real estate transfer fees.
During the four years stay in the United States and as part of his legal practice training, Joel also worked at the Business and Legal Affairs Department of Warner Music Latina Inc. where he took part in the legal work involving agreements typical from the music Industry, particularly, Sales Agreements, License Agreements, Artists and Producing Agreements, usually characterized by the confluence of Common Law and Civil Law issues and implications.
In late 2010, Joel moved back to Spain as part of the Angles & Buxeda Advocats, S.L.P. project to give a boost to its commitment to enter into the international legal market, a request of the firm clients who had increased their international business and, consequently, international legal issues.
In his late work at Angles & Buxeda Advocats, S.L.P. Joel has been involve in: the drafting of multiple agreements between one of the leading telecommunications company based in Spain and a subsidiary of the one of the top five Spanish financial institutions, with a potential impact of one million client accounts; the bankruptcy procedure of several major local and international companies, including one of the world top five building maintenance companies; the drafting of international distribution and agency agreements for companies with sales worldwide; the drafting of user/consumer and provider agreements for companies that exclusively operate and transact electronically; and, the legal advice to one of the main Transportation and Logistic Spanish companies, in a breach of contract of goodwill sale agreement.
Nonetheless , Joel’s legal work also includes advising companies in a broad range of legal matters, such as banking compliance, protected and personal data law, consumer’s law, conflicts of law (civil and common law), restructuring, insolvency and corporate law.
Joel is a member of the Spanish Bar Association, the Barcelona Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association, the New Jersey Bar Association and the Sports Law Association, and licensed to practice in Spain, the State of Florida, and the State of New Jersey.
Joel fluently speaks English, Spanish and Catalan.
