Christopher Stephens, Orrick’s senior partner for China, will leave the firm for the general counsel role at the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Stephens has been in Asia for over 16 years. He relocated from Coudert Brothers’ New York office to Hong Kong in late 1996 and joined Orrick’s Hong Kong office in 2005 as managing partner of the firm’s Asia practice.
He became the firm’s senior partner for China after partner Michelle Taylor took over the Asia managing partner role two years ago.
Based in Hong Kong, Stephens is a veteran lawyer in energy and infrastructure projects and finance transactions across Asia Pacific. He has been working for ADB on a number of projects. Stephens will be the fifth China partner to leave Orrick so far this year. His departure follows fellow Orrick partners Allen Shyu (now with Troutman Sanders) and Thomas Man (now with Morrison & Foerster) in Beijing and Mark Lee and David Cho in Hong Kong.

We recently added two partners - Seung Chong and Mathew Lewis - and an of counsel - Dongho Lee - among other hires, in our China and Hong Kong offices,” said Asia managing partner Taylor.
