Janez Starman began his professional career after graduation in 1996 as a Junior Associate for mag. Gregor Velkaverh. In 1998 he passed the National legal exam. In the period between 1997 and 1998 he worked as a Judge trainee at the Koper Higher Court.
He has been a partner in the Law Firm Straman/Velkaveh since 2000.
In 2005 he successfully completed training in the program: »International Criminal Court (ICC) from the perspective of defence lawyers« acquiring the skills necessary to act as counsellor before the International Criminal Tribunal in the Hague. Two years later he enrolled in postgraduate studies of Civil, Commercial and Corporate law.
In 2009 he successfully completed training and acquired the title of mediator trainer at the Slovenian mediators association. Since 2010 he has been working as a mediator at the Ljubljana District Court, Koper District Court and Koper Labour Court.
Since 2012 he is also involved in the work of the Slovenian Bar Association and from 2021 he is the President of the Bar for the 3 (three) year term.
